MATTERFIT v2.0

Speculative material and fabrication body hull design framework

MATTERFIT is a bridge prototype that connects raw 3D shape information with estimated material and fabrication suggestions and speculative photorealistic interpolations / visualizations. Input is 3D based outfit sketches and a basic Material database MATTER. Both the 3D generation, as well as the estimated material and fabrication suggestions are speculative but focus on plausible realiszation. It is meant as a starting point - as visionary inspiration or quick visual prototyping for body hull or outfit generation - especially with a focus on sustainable, all compostable materials.

Grown Mycelium Lobes on a Bacterial Cellulose Skin - The object is grown rather than assembled: a bacterial cellulose skin is fermented over a body-shaped form and the lobes are grown from mycelium in lobe-shaped moulds, then joined while both are still living and flexible.

Moulded Silicone Lobe Shell - The object is cast as a set of hollow silicone lobe shells over a knitted support layer, produced from the blob mesh as a multi-part mould.Moulded lobe shell in welded foam segments - The object is made as a set of moulded closed-cell foam lobes, cut and thermally welded into a single skin that is then lined and closed around the body.Grown Mycelium Lobes on a Bacterial Cellulose Skin - The object is grown rather than assembled: a bacterial cellulose skin is fermented over a body-shaped form and the lobes are grown from mycelium in lobe-shaped moulds, then joined while both are still living and flexible.
