DOOM LOOM
A documentary-style close-up photograph of a translucent, net-like structure composed of interwoven cellulose threads, spun from recycled paper waste, forming a delicate, floating lattice. The threads are coarse-textured yet resilient, with a fibrous, somewhat translucent quality, revealing faint amber hues under soft directional lighting. Embedded within the mesh’s interstices are clusters of slime mold spores, appearing as iridescent, gelatinous specks that shimmer faintly with a bioluminescent sheen. Strategically drilled air chambers—visible as small, irregularly shaped voids—dot the structure, filled with a milky, semi-liquid substance that suggests internal pressure. These chambers are connected by braided, bio-organic strands, their surfaces etched with fine, branching grooves that mimic neural pathways, pulsing faintly with a rhythmic, bioluminescent glow in deep blue-green tones. The structure’s core is a dry, rigid cellulose framework, contrasting with the outer layer of a swelling, gelatinous slime mold, which appears to expand and contract subtly, creating a dynamic, living interface. The braided conductive pathways transition seamlessly from organic to semi-metallic textures, their junctions sealed with dark, resin-like adhesive, emphasizing the fusion of synthetic and biological materials. The background is a neutral, clinical laboratory setting with soft shadows cast by the rigid netting, highlighting the interplay of textures and material shifts. Side lighting accentuates the three-dimensionality of the structure, revealing the layered sandwich of dry and wet materials, while a faint ambient glow emanates from the bioluminescent nodes, suggesting latent energy. The composition is balanced and symmetrical, focusing on the intricate craftsmanship of the woven patterns and the organic, almost fragile vitality of the living components.
